No, nothing to do with sand.
Here’s the thing: by 2010 I’d been making my living as an artist for a decade, but I spent very little of that time actually creating new art.
Or at least, when I did create new art, it was pretty much always for clients, which can be a lot of fun, but is not the same thing as creating just because.
In 2010, thanks to a series of whallops upside the head by the Universe, I realized that my life was not the way I wanted it to be, and I consciously set out to change this.
One of those changes was to make time on a regular basis to actually play in my studio again. To make stuff just because. No rules. No client expectations to fulfill. Not even my own expectations to fulfill, honestly, because my rule is just to experiment and muck around – it doesn’t even matter if I like what I make.
I call it being in the Creative Sandbox.
The art you see here emerged from those sessions, hence the name, “Sandbox” Art.
