Need Permission to Play?
Oh, my dear, I’ve been there!
It’s so hard to let ourselves play, with all those voices that say things like:
“But playing is so… self-indulgent! So… frivolous!”
“What’s the point if I’m not making money from it?”
“I should be doing more important things!”
“I’m not going to like what I make anyway, so why bother?”
And on, and on, and on…
But I’ll tell you a secret: those voices are gremlins. And gremlins will say anything and everything to keep you from doing anything creative.
Why?
Because gremlins exist to keep you inside your comfort zone.
(Yep. They’re trying to keep you safe. It’s kind of sweet, actually. If it weren’t so darned destructive!)
And creativity only and ever happens outside your comfort zone. In the zone of uncertainty.
So, odd as it sounds, gremlins are scared of creative play! And they’ll do anything to keep you from doing it. Including lying.
Here’s the truth: creative play is essential.
Not only is it one of the fastest routes to happiness and self-fulfillment, but it’s how you change the world.
Don’t believe me?
