I hear you. You don't feel ready for prime time yet.

What you make is so personal — it's hard to share something you're not happy with, or that's going through an awkward stage, or that you created purely for yourself.

You're afraid that:

  • It's not good enough.
  • If you put your work out there, people won't like it.
  • You'll appear selfish or overconfident, like you're showing off.
  • People won't understand — they'll think you're out of sync, too geeky, too bookish, too dull, too [fill in the blank].
  • It's been said or done already, and probably better, so why bother?

Maybe worst of all, nobody will even care.

It's no wonder the fear of all of this keeps you staying small and hidden!

But you know something's missing.

You long to be good enough, to have your work embraced, to touch other people with what you create.

The Truth About Sharing
that Nobody Ever Told You

Wanna know a secret? We think that keeping our creative cards close to the vest will keep us safe, that the time to share is only when we feel 100% ready and confident, and that putting anything out there before it's perfect will lead to Bad Things.

Wrong!

Here's what I've learned: it is through sharing that you become confident.

In other words, feeling ready is not the right measuring stick!

Yes, it's scary to take that step and come out of hiding, but when you intentionally let your work go, and do it in a loving, safe environment, this is what happens:

  • You desensitize yourself to the fear of sharing imperfect work — and to fear in general!
  • You learn to see your work through other people's eyes, which can actually help you to like it better!
  • The feedback you receive can help you hone in on your unique, creative voice.
  • Your work touches other people in ways you may not have anticipated, which makes you feel connected and not alone.

Or to put it another way:

Doing the thing you fear is the only way to get fully past the fear.

And doing something you're scared of makes you braver in all sorts of other areas in your life, too!

That's why I'm inviting you to join me in an experiment I'm calling:

Creative-Courage-Lab-750px

Melissa Dinwiddie - creativity instigator, and your secret weapon!I'm Melissa Dinwiddie, Artist, Happiness Catalyst & Creativity Instigator. My mission is to help you turn your creative taps to "on," because I know only too well what it's like to be mired in stuckness.

I also understand intimately the fear of sharing, because it held me back for years.

This is a big problem when your goal is to touch people with what you do!

Maybe you dream of:

Writing a book or a blog...

Teaching a class...

Speaking in front of a crowd...

Singing or playing an instrument or reciting poetry for an audience...

Hanging an exhibit of your paintings...

If your fears hold you back from sharing your work, all of these Big Dreams stay dreams forever, and never become reality.

Wouldn't you love a solution to this problem?

Thankfully, I'm creating one just for you: Creative Courage Lab!

Ready to Grow Your Creative Courage?

What We'll Do

In Creative Courage Lab, we'll join together for a month of tiny-and-daily experimentation.

In the context of the most loving, supportive, generous community you can imagine, we will:

  1. Create something tiny every day — writing, painting, music... whatever you want.
  2. Post it where others can see it — either in our private Facebook group, or with the #creativecouragelab hashtag on Instagram, or both!

Every day you'll get an email from me, with advice on how to tame the self-doubt gremlins and harness the fear butterflies, tips for staying self-compassionate, and creative inspiration.

We'll also meet up on THREE live group calls, where you can ask any questions that come up and connect with kindred spirits in real time.

And you'll also be warmly welcomed into my private Creative Sandbox Facebook group, the most generous, loving, supportive folks you're likely to meet anywhere.

Why Join the Fun?

  • Increased prolificness (you'll prove to yourself that you can sustain a (tiny) daily practice).
  • Improved skill (the more you do something, the better you'll get at it).
  • Less fear (you'll desensitize yourself to the terror of sharing stuff that isn’t perfect).
  • Greater confidence (you'll scare away the gremlins of self-doubt).
  • Be a hero (you'll model for and encourage others to try whatever they might be afraid of trying).

Doing tiny-and-daily experiments like this on my own has transformed my life in huge ways, not least of which was the discovery that sharing my work helped me see it through other people's lenses.

And although my fear was that my imperfect work would draw painful criticism, I discovered just the opposite:

Seeing my work through other people's lenses helped me to take off my own, hyper-critical glasses and fall in love with work I'd previously dismissed as crappy.

I also got braver about taking more risks, which shot me forward fast in all sorts of areas in my life!

The same thing can happen for you in Creative Courage Lab.

It All Takes Place Inside the
Creative Sandbox!

Creative Courage Lab only happens inside the Creative Sandbox, my private membership community designed to clear out those "stuckness" gremlins and turn your creative taps to "permanently on."

Has anyone noticed how so many people in this group are artistically focused and producing? But all of us became group members because sometime in the past we felt unfocused or stuck or unworthy to create. Then we worked with Melissa Dinwiddie and something changed. Thank you Melissa!

Here's What You Get Inside:

During the month of Creative Courage Lab you'll get:

  • Daily emails with creative inspiration and tips for taming the self-doubt gremlins and harnessing the fear butterflies.

I love the sandbox because it is a great place to be creative with other like minded people. It is easy to feel disconnected and this group makes me feel connected 24/7. A special place to meet special people. :)
    Omaste Witkowski
  • Allison Culley
I am enjoying the Creative Sandbox because of the vibrant community. I can honestly say two of my current creative passions, altered books and negative space, were directly inspired as a result of joining this group.

What Creative Sandbox Members Say

  • Vicki Gierach
The Creative Sandbox has helped me stay connected with other people who are also struggling with inner gremlins and finding the time to be creative. Knowing that I'm not alone has led to a small miracle: I PICKED UP A PAINTBRUSH AND STARTED PAINTING AGAIN! I would recommend the Creative Sandbox to anyone who wants to dive deeply into their own journey of self-exploration and creativity. I am so thankful for this group.
    Vicki Gierach
  • Cathy Rininger Duffy
I love the Creative Sandbox. I was initially hesitant to join, fearful that the “comparison trap” would just add to the gremlin voices in my head, but I have found quite the opposite - a group of incredibly talented and supportive people who encourage and inspire me. As I see kindness modeled, I am learning to speak kindness to myself. No matter the level of talent or ability, we all struggle with the same issues at one time or another. Being part of the Creative Sandbox keeps my toe, so to speak, in the flow of creativity - which makes it so much easier to just jump in and play. After a long, difficult and dry season of my life, it feels really good to discover the joy of creative play again. Thank you, Melissa!
    Cathy Rininger Duffy
  • Nana Campana
You've been the catalyst for everything great in my life. Thanks to you, I became AWAKENED and empowered to finally DREAM BIG and know that I could actually reach what I placed before me. I will forever be grateful to you for having reawakened my heart and my passions. It is something I will forever owe you.
    Nana Campana
  • Petrea Tomko
Whatever Melissa offers, I want to be a part of. Inside the Creative Sandbox I found weapons to fight the gremlins. You have people giving you honest helpful feedback for your work. You get to explore new media without damaging repercussions. You get courage. You get hope. When you get down, you get help getting back up. You make friends you long to live near. It's a win-win for all.

FAQs

How much time will Creative Courage Lab take?

That is entirely up to you. You'll get the best results if you create and share something every day, but remember, the intention here is to keep it tiny. Plus part of what we'll be practicing is imperfectionism, so you are encouraged to allow each day's creation to be rough.

And did I mention tiny?

For writers, we'll be using 3x5 cards. So we're talking small here.

Visual artists can use 3x5 cards or Artist Trading Cards.

If you make music or video or some other creative thing, think in terms of 15 to 30 seconds of a rough draft.

You can determine how much time you put into creating, but 10-15 minutes per day is right on par.

How much time you want to hang out in our Facebook group is also up to you.

When will the live calls be?

Tuesday, November 17th at 10am PT; Thursday, December 3rd at 4pm PT; Tuesday, December 15th, at 10am PT.

What if the call times aren’t good for me?

There will always be an option to leave your question or issue in a special thread in our Facebook group, and I'll record my response for you to listen to later.

 Are the calls recorded?

Yes! I'll post the recording as soon as it's processed, usually within about 24 hours of the call.

Do I have to attend the live calls?

Nope. Come to as many or as few as you like. Easy, peasy.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

Nope, Creative Courage Lab is a non-refundable investment, and here’s why:

Part of the reason we struggle with creating and sharing creative work is because of the emotions tied to it. This course will, by its nature, bring stuff up. That’s one of the reasons this course can change into your life!

Creative Courage Lab is a container to work on that stuff. It would be irresponsible of me as a teacher and changemaker to offer you an easy out anytime you get the tiniest bit uncomfortable.

In other words, please do not click that buy button unless you’re sure you want this!

I have more questions…

Shoot me an email. Or phone me at 650-938-3939. I’ll be happy to answer whatever questions you’ve got!

I've been following Melissa for quite some time now. So, when she opened up the Creative Sandbox, I was interested. With my busy schedule, I wasn't sure I would have time to participate. I signed up at the last minute with just because I wanted to be involved with the group. The community Melissa has created is so amazing. There's no pressure, yet there is accountability. We're all here to learn, to grow creatively, and to support each other. We face many of the same challenges -- it's so nice to have the support and friendship I have found here. :)

I am learning 2 things from the Creative Sandbox with Melissa. First I notice it is becoming much easier to sit down and make art. Melissa has given us the tools to deal with fear, perfectionistic tendencies, and comparison to others. Now I just sit down and play -- and ideas come all the time. Secondly, I am becomming more compassionate with myself. The permission to "make crap" is so positive. And the group is so supportive with each other. I enjoy posting what I've done and seeing posts from others. Thanks, Melissa!

    Hi Melissa,

I just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed your programs and how much I've gotten out of them.

As you know, I've done a variety of them now, and I keep coming back because your groups have a really special blend of enthusiasm and energy. I never fail to make true friendships that have continued on outside of the groups, and deeply relish the special connections within the groups that I make with fellow artists or folks in the process of discovering their creativity. We all have different starting points, but it's wonderful to walk together.

Beyond the connections, there is something about the blend of energy and focus in the groups that gives me that little extra push when working on my own goals, whether it be clutterbusting, creative exploration, or playing in the sandbox.

    Invaluable and worth every penny.

Thanks for all that you do, your vision and enthusiasm. I'm looking forward to enjoying more of your programs!
