Dashing off some letters with my NEW NEULAND MARKERS, to show the variety of stroke width you can get with each pen. 🖍
I’m especially loving that ArtMarker—brush markers are just so luscious in my hand, even though I started off with broad edge nibs way back when.

At the bottom is my version of Neuland *calligraphy*, not to be confused with the @neulandcom pen and facilitation supply company. (Confusing, I know!)

I’m actually teaching a weekend workshop in my version of Neuland *calligraphy* through the @friendsofcalligraphy in Albany, CA, April 7-8. New-World Neuland (or Pen Manipulation Through the Back Door). (Neuland markers NOT required—we’ll be using 5mm Zig markers, in fact! 😄)

We drove to FedEx to get the package yesterday, because I couldn’t bear to risk another missed delivery today! 🖍
So far I’m favoring the ArtMarkers (brush pens) the most, but I have more wedge outliners. Ah, well. I’ll learn to love them, I suppose. 🖍
You have to let yourself suck at something for awhile in order to learn to unsuck at it! 😊

So I hung two flip charts on the wall right next to each other, to give myself twice the space. And it’s still CRAZY HARD to do this thing!
I feel like my mind is about to explode, trying to deal with all this information, and put it on paper in a meaningful way.
I barely manage to get any images on there at all, partly because my visual library is still not very large, and words are still my comfort zone. 😜

And layout??? I’m supposed to make this LOOK GOOD, too?

You’ve got to be freaking kidding me… All I keep thinking is that a year from now, surely I will feel more competent at this than I feel in this moment!
And yet, I can’t stop doing this thing! The challenge of it, the steep learning curve, THIS IS FUN! I LOVE this stuff! 😊

Little by little, I’m learning. Little by little, I’m improving.
Each visual note in and of itself might not be better than the one before, but overall, I will keep trending upwards, and that’s all I can ask for.
