Morning doodle in the Creative Sandbox. It’s not about making something amazing, to impress other people, or even my own ego, but rather simply to follow my curiosity.

It’s about exploration. Joy. PLAY!
When you have play in your life, everything else falls into place, and whether anyone else gives a whit about what you created loses its importance.
The ego falls away, and you can find your true essence.

THAT is when you’re at your most creative. And ironically, when the seeds of what will ultimately attract the most interest from others will emerge, too!
First, though, you have to let yourself make crap. Let yourself not care whether it’s crap or not—just follow your curiosity and let it take you where it will.
Ignore the chattering voices of your inner critic, your gremlins, who will invariably tell you whatever you create sucks. Just keep follow me your curiosity.

Let it delight you. Let it disgust you. Let yourself have a reaction, as long as it’s curiosity and “what would happen if..?” (That’s Creative Sandbox Way™ Guidepost #6, btw!) Keep creating, keep playing, keep following your curiosity. It will take you places you never imagined.

Here’s what I love about improv doodling: I never know what will show up! And when I open myself to allowing that to be—to Creative Sandbox Way™ Guidepost #1, “There is no wrong”—and just follow my curiosity, sometimes what happens delights me.

That’s what happened this morning. 😊

Goodness knows it doesn’t always end up that way. Some days my gremlins tell me it sucks, I suck, and what the bleep do I think I’m doing with art supplies in my hand?! But today I’m delighted. I’m surprised that this weird jumble of shapes should delight me, but it does. And I’m calling that good.
When you find delight, don’t question it, just look for the source and keep mining for more.
