Why I Intentionally Sabotaged My Morning Ritual
I’ve shared before that I’ve got this great daily routine going: I write, draw, meditate, stretch, do a little professional development, and work out — all before I get to work each morning.
But last week all that went completely to hell.
Don’t worry, I was expecting it. In fact, it was by design.
Yes, I knowingly and intentionally wreaked havoc on my morning ritual!
My morning routine went to hell because I was in Florida at Heroic Public Speaking Live, a conference for speakers and aspiring speakers.
Each morning I had to [Read more…]
LCN 045: Why Even Creative Pros Need Sandbox Time
Someone in my Creative Sandbox community mentioned the other day that she’s working on a professional certification in her field as a creative pro, and it’s eating up a lot of her time. The work is fun, and it’s certainly creative, so does it count as sandbox time as well as homework for her certification? I mean, there are no rules in the Creative Sandbox, right?

LCN 044: A Conversation with Amy & Maya of The Creativity Caravan
I have a special treat for you this week! Podcast listeners know that most of my episodes are monologues: me, and only me, talking about all kinds of things related to living a full-color creative life.
Occasionally, though, I bring on a guest. I ask lots of questions, of course, but I see these guest calls as conversations, as opposed to interviews — it’s about the ideas flowing back and forth between us.
Today I’m excited to share with you a three-way conversation that wasn’t originally supposed to be on the podcast.

Saturday morning doodle drawing. My goal this morning was to let go of expectations, while at the same time departing from the patterns I’ve been in. I don’t want to reproduce something I’ve already done, because that’s boring!
I started this piece yesterday with the 7 amorphous shapes inside the larger shape at the top. That’s all I did on it yesterday, because been there, done that… What can I do from here that’s *different*? That was the question I asked, which led me down a new path, toward discovery and delight.
When I’m following my curiosity, I’m in tune with the Universe. This is what creativity is really all about–following curiosity.
It’s not about the outcome, but when I’m able to hear those “what if..” questions and let them be my guide, I often end up really liking the outcome!
Neat how that works. ?
