2 ⅓ hours of Creative Sandbox Playday let me finish this spread from my travel journal. Something I would NEVER get to at home on my own! A total joy allow myself to immerse myself in something so time-consuming and “purposeless.” 🖍
Of course, the point is that it’s far from purposeless. The purpose is that giving time to creative pursuits like this makes us HAPPY, boosts our ENERGY, lowers blood pressure, boosts immune system, and overall increases our WELLNESS! That is a powerful purpose. 😊

More hand practice, from this morning’s sketchbook. 🖍
Tomorrow I get to make art ALL DAY! Squee! It’s Creative Sandbox Playday! I’m so excited! 10am-2:30pm in Palo Alto, at Etz Chayim Congregation. I’m not sure what I’m going to work on—probably more pages in my travel journal from our trip to Paris and Basel this past August, though it would also be fun to practice drawing, or do mixed media.

Thank you to @ericavmarx for inviting me to participate in her live coaching + art experiment this week! What an honor. This is what I ended up creating during the 45 minute live coaching session, as the live-streamed artist.
🖍
I did NOT intend it to turn into a graphic recording session, truly I didn’t! I had planned to DOODLE! As in abstract art. But I picked up a Neuland marker… and, well, I wrote some words, and it ended up becoming much more graphic recording than abstract art. The client still found it useful—it’s not that it was bad at all, or that graphic recording was “worse” and abstract art would have been “better”… It was just *different* from what any of us expected going in!
🖍
Life is like that. It flummoxes our expectations. We roll with it… or not! 😊
🖍
The whole experience was profound. I’m looking forward to doing it again in December! Though I plan to stick with different tools next time, to force myself to stay abstract, purely to see what that’s like. 😊

Practicing hands in fists this morning. Starting with an attempt at drawing my own fist, pseudo-naturalistically, then “iconifying” it. Work in progress.
🖍
I hope you make time for some creative play today.

185: Jenni Heffernan Brown Is the Quintessential Type A Creative
I’ve got a few announcements before I get to today’s conversation.
First, I wanted to let you know that next week, there won’t be a podcast on Wednesday, because I’m moving to an every-other-week format.
This has been a long time coming, and I’ve been resisting it like crazy, because I’ve been producing a weekly podcast for almost three and a half years now. And pulling back from that production schedule feels like I’m letting someone down.
And the reality is, the more podcasts I produce — the more frequently I publish — the more downloads I get, and the more likely the Creative Sandbox Way™ podcast is to become popular.
At least theoretically… [Read more…]
