It’s the end of November, both my birthday and Thanksgiving have come and gone, which means December is right around the corner, which means CrAzy hOLiDaY sEaSoN!!!!
I’ve spent the past couple of decades intentionally streamlining my holidays, but December still does a number on me. It’s just in the air, isn’t it? I always feel like I’m slipping down an ever-steepening slide at this time of year…
You might think that this would be the worst time to take a course on nurturing yourself — I mean, who has time, right? Wouldn’t it make more sense to just wait until after the New Year, after the dust settles?
My guest in the video above, Káren Wallace, begs to differ, and I agree with her 100%. After all, feeding your creative spirit is, I believe, the ultimate in nurturing yourself, and you know how I feel about that!
Have a listen to our conversation (please excuse the poor video quality..) to hear Káren explain why this crazy-busy time is the most essential time to focus on self-care (swimming, gas tanks, and juggling balls all play a colorful part in her explanation).
Káren is the publisher of The Calm Space, an online magazine devoted to getting you from stress to serenity, one step at a time (“like a virtual day-spa for your senses”). She helps women learn that the best thing they can do for those they love, and for their own livelihood, is to take extremely good care of their number one asset — themselves.
Amen!
This woman knows of what she speaks, and she learned it the hard way. She writes:
After a lifetime of giving until I fell over (especially at this time of year), I learned the power of cherishing myself, first. I am now on a lifelong journey to remember to fix my own oxygen mask first – so that I am more available, and happier about it, for those I love and care for.
What’s really cool is that for the next week, you can get an introduction to Káren’s wonderful work for free, via her online course, Cherish Your Self: 5 Days to Nurture Yourself from the Inside Out (Just in Time for the Holidays).
In this free course, you will learn to:
- add new tools to your self-care toolkit
- stop running perilously close to empty
- love yourself in a positive, healthy way
- top up your tank so you’ve always got enough to give those you love and care for
- walk taller and make stronger decisions when you’re coming from a place of ‘full’
I’m looking forward to taking Káren’s course myself. As you know, I’m a big believer in giving myself the gift of creative expression as a way to take extremely good care of myself. But there are lots of ways I don’t do a very good job of cherishing my self, and I’m excited to learn from Káren.
If you’d like to join me, here’s all you need to do:

(Kickstart Your Change produces a new (free!) course every week — every Tuesday you’ll get an email with instructions for signing up for the latest course. You’ll have one week to sign up for each course, and if/when you do sign up, you’ll have access to it forever. The following Tuesday registration will close for that course, and open for a new one.) - Watch for an email from Kickstart Your Change with instructions for how to sign up.

Kapow! You’re in!
I hope to see you inside. Together we can start a movement of self-cherishing creatives, and approach this and future holiday seasons with grace.
PS — Check out the conversation Káren had with me (with better quality video!) over at The Calm Space.
PPS — Pssst! Know someone who might benefit from seeing this today? Pass it on!
