My dear friend, J, recently went though a grueling year of chemo, double-mastectomy and radiation. During her treatment she was over here every week for dinner (the silver lining for me, I must admit, because I got to see her regularly!) I was a witness to her weight loss, her mouth sores, her baldness, her just plain not feeling well.
Her mortality, as well as my own, stared me in the eye. It was scary.
Thankfully, J’s doing great. But she got a punch in the gut the other day when she found out a co-worker of hers, someone J hadn’t even known was sick, had just died of breast cancer.
Pow.
It freaked J out. But it also kicked her into gear. Time to figure out how to live the life she really wants. Now.
For J, that means traveling, among other things. Time to make it happen, because you just never know. She’s now on a months-long trip around the world.
If not now, when?
None of us ever knows, of course.
What’s your dream? What do you want to create or accomplish in your life?
And more importantly, what’s holding you back? And how are you going to change that?
