This will also add you to my interest list for ongoing art, calligraphy, book arts, writing, and creativity classes in Silicon Valley, where I live.
I’ve learned from a lot of teachers and you, my dear, are among my favorites. Period. Exclamation point.

Why play live with me?
There is nothing (nothing!) like coming together in real time and real space with other like-minded creatives with the purpose of creating.
We’re wired to create. We need to create, and yet most of us rarely get enough time and space — let alone support from those around us — to do so.
This is exactly why I host retreats and workshops.
The surge of creative energy I get from a live retreat or workshop propels me forward through the coming months of “regular life.” The sum of what I come away with is always way more than the time spent at the retreat itself.
What do I bring to my live workshops and retreats?
Since 1997 I’ve taught classes and workshops all over the U.S. and in the U.K. and Istanbul, in subjects as diverse as calligraphy, vocal technique, ukulele, yoga, jazz dance and creative expression.
In addition to my teaching experience, I bring almost two decades of co-counseling and a gift for creating supportive, safe, FUN environments to every retreat and workshop I lead. (I’ve been told this is one of my superpowers.)

Testimonials from Previous Creative Sandbox Retreats:
I can’t say enough good things about Melissa’s creativity retreat. It’s such a loving, supportive place to work on your art and SUCH a huge break from chores and everyday responsibilities. I get so much work done on my writing when I go. Folks are welcome to work on any type of art. And it’s a beautiful location with super fun, friendly people. Think about joining us next time.
If you’ve ever wanted to live a couple of days of your perfect dream life — beautiful place, great food and companions, and time and support for your creative work — come on down. It is a lovely, peaceful place to create and be in communion with other creative spirits, with a lake, forest, pool, and no cooking. Quietly inspiring and very real, unlike any other retreat I’ve done.
Suzanne Edminster, Saltwork Studio
I was feeling psychically and creatively “constipated” by life, and Melissa, you created the perfect container to rest, recreate, commune with like-minded creative souls, and get out of my already crowded head and into my body, making it possible for ideas to rise to the surface and re-ignite my creativity and curiosity. You magically brought the right time, right place and right people, together to create what I think is truly a great work of art. I’m so grateful.
BIG warm hug!
Courage report! I had to share that I astonished myself by signing up to rappel down a 35-story skyscraper to raise money for brain cancer research! I wanted to share with you that a chunk of my courage came from doing your Create & Incubate Retreat in May! I didn’t think about it at the time, but the decision to drive up to the retreat took me out of my comfort zone a bit, the time and activities pushed me out a bit further, and I came home thinking I could tackle an even bigger challenge. Thank you for your part in all this! I’m looking forward to next year.
I was inspired by all the artists around me!
I loved that the days were so easy since I did not have to cook or do dishes; only create, share and eat delicious, healthy meals. I loved that I had easy access to coffee and water. With everything there, we did not waste time driving around for good coffee or food. Plus, I enjoyed having meals together.
Thank you for putting all this together, you are appreciated. This Guinea Pig is happy and inspired (I just need a wheel).
