It’s fun, and also scary, to make art that I know is bound for a specific person! I have no idea if they’ll like it!
As creators, we have to let that go if we we are ever going to create anything, because fear of not pleasing someone else is paralyzing. It is imperative to create for YOU, planted firmly in the Creative Sandbox, following the Creative Sandbox Guideposts (read: be in the mindspace of a four-year-old, where it’s all about following curiosity, exploration, and play, and not about trying to impress anyone). Will anyone else like it? Maybe, maybe not.
Will the *recipients* of my doodles like them? Maybe, maybe not.
That is not my concern. Worrying about that is not my job.
My one and only job, as the creator, is to CREATE, not to judge whether what I create is good enough.
After I’ve created, THEN I can assess what I’ve created. But not while I’ve got my creator hat on.
And doodles? They’re just pieces of paper, not carved in marble, for goodness sake! (Besides, if the recipients don’t like them, they can toss them in the recycle bin! ?) Lower the stakes, folks! It makes life a lot less stressful.
