So how’m I doing in my quest to re-invent my life, follow my evolving Blisses and create the life I really, really want?
I just got back from a screening of the fantastic documentary Mighty Uke, at the historic Castro Theatre in San Francisco – my treat to myself after working the rest of the weekend.
Note to self: you simply cannot be in a bad mood sitting in an historic movie palace filled with ukulele players, all strumming away in unison. (Uke players are truly a special group.)
(And yes, we did actually settle down and play those ukuleles, though you’d never guess from this photo, which makes it look like we’re in the middle of some kind of ukulele riot.)
(See?)
(A slightly better view of the inside of the theatre.)
Even an incipient migraine didn’t keep me down. (Or the fact that alas, we did not break the record for the world’s largest group strum. Though the media were out in spades, in anticipation, and the 1,400+ seat theater looked packed to me.)
It was a sweet capper to a productive week, in which I got some great practice (the P-word) saying no (the N-word) in order to say yes.
If that all sounds rather complicated, or just plain confusing, click play on the video, where all is revealed.
The upshot: although I’m far from achieving mastery and have a long way to go before I eliminate my great mountain of debt and get where I want to be financially, I’m exactly where I want to be as an artist: in the creative sandbox.
And after a decade of not being there, and not knowing quite how to get there, that is a miracle worth crowing about.
Plus at 6:02 I share some new art, and at 7:45 you can see how far I’ve come with my ukulele in the past week. (Who could resist such temptations?)
Enjoy, and let me know what you’ve said no to lately, and what you’ve said yes to instead.
