Wacky doodle made in this morning’s Doodlecam, which was all about how to get past fear of the blank page. Or fear of starting, really.
Because before you start, your “canvas” is pristine—perfection itself! How can you possibly improve on that?

No wonder we’re so afraid to start!
My solution to fear of the blank page? Make it un-blank!

Seriously! Just do something! Anything! (That’s Guidepost #5 of my Creative Sandbox Way, btw: “Just start. Anywhere.” ?) It’s magical what happens when you just start. When you let it be CRAP.
I will literally make a SCRIBBLE on that pristine, blank page, in order to get over the fear of it!
Now I can’t have fear of the blank page anymore! I can have fear of a scribble, but not of the blank page.
Now all I have to do is respond to the scribble—to whatever is in front of me—which is so much easier than trying to come up with brilliance to fill a blank page!
