Day 2: Sudafed = I can actually breathe again! Spent the day in bed, but at least I’m breathing through my nose. Better is better!

Some days I don’t like what comes out of my #creativesandbox playtime drawing sessions, but liking it is not the point.

DOING IT is the point!

You won’t always like it. But the irony (and challenge) is that in order to get to work that you love, work that delights you, you have to let go of the outcome and just do the work.

2017 Day 1 doodle 1. In which I draw my bottle of antibiotics, which I hope will turn the tide on this lousy bug that has had me down and been getting worse.

Here’s what I can say: it has been an uncomfortable day–headachey, sinus-achey, ear-achey, and so, so tired, and the moments spent in this drawing were the most pleasant moments of this whole day.
I was able, for a brief bit of time, to almost forget how lousy my body felt, and simply enjoy being and creating.

That is the power of art. ?

It may feel self-indulgent, but it’s not. It’s healing. It is essential to the human spirit.
Creating is essential for humans, body and soul.

Happy New Year! Bad cold, headachey, going through boxes of tissues like they’re going out of style, but I was determined to get a doodle in on the last day of the year.

2016 ended up being the Year of the Black and White Doodle, which led to a collaborative coloring book (http://bit.ly/2hFdRvW), and then to my BOOK-book, The Creative Sandbox Way (http://bit.ly/2dnWyeJ). It was a long travel day yesterday, from Mobile to SFO. On even years, more often than not, this is how we end up spending our anniversary (that’s what happens when you get married between Xmas and New Years, and your in-laws live two time zones away–your anniversary becomes a travel day). But I brought a sketchbook in my carry-on, and my trusty #PigmaMicron 05. That bottom row was right before we landed at SFO.

Even with a cold (now a BAD cold), on a plane, you can find a way to make some #CreativeSandboxWay playtime happen!

Small daily acts. They make life so much better.

I brought my sketchbook and Pigma Micron pens to Mobile with me. Sitting around the family room with my wonderful in-laws, doodling while we digest a delicious meal over relaxed conversation.
