Squee! Look what I made—new exemplars for today’s calligraphy class! Made with Tombow Dual Brish Pen (the pink) and Pentel Fude Touch Sign pen (the black). I was planning on teaching pointed pen, but when they showed me what kinds of lettering they liked—all brush marker scripts—I revised my plan to teach brush marker copperplate.
Why copperplate? Because the basic strokes are classic shapes, and if you can get a handle on them, you can do pretty much anything.
First, though, always get a handle on the basics! (I would say to master the basics, but I don’t know that I’ve ever fully mastered anything! ? We *aim* for mastery, yes, but there’s always somewhere higher to reach, right? And as it should be! If I ever master everything I’ll be bored with everything, and what’s the point in doing anything anymore?
