153: Motion Is Lotion
What is “motion is lotion”?
It all has to do with two totally different things going on in my life:
First, finally getting physical therapy for a mysteriously frozen shoulder.
Second, my obsession with what I’ve been calling “flip chart sketchnotes” (and now Visual Shownotes™).
And most importantly, what the two have to do with each other.

Another flipchart sketchnote (25”x25” this time) from the fabulous @jordanharbinger show. This time with @gretchenrubin, discussing her Four Tendencies book and framework, which make SO MUCH SENSE! 🖍
Which tendency resonates most for you? I’m primarily Obliger, but I’ve got some Upholder and some Rebel in me, too, and a little Questioner, as well!

If you haven’t checked out Jordan’s podcast, it’s worth a listen. There’s a reason he grew his former podcast to one of the top podcasts on iTunes. Not only does he get top-shelf guests, but he researches the heck out of them and is a top-shelf interviewer (as he says in this interview, he’s finally found a use for his Questioner tendency! 😅)

Meanwhile, I’m still climbing the visual note-taking mountain. And it is still HARD! I’d like to include more VISUALS, rather than be so text-heavy. That’s my “leading edge,” along with layout. But I got Neuland pens last night—yay! And I figured out how to process this image in Scan Scribe to drop out the paper background. Win!

Dashing off some letters with my NEW NEULAND MARKERS, to show the variety of stroke width you can get with each pen. 🖍
I’m especially loving that ArtMarker—brush markers are just so luscious in my hand, even though I started off with broad edge nibs way back when.

At the bottom is my version of Neuland *calligraphy*, not to be confused with the @neulandcom pen and facilitation supply company. (Confusing, I know!)

I’m actually teaching a weekend workshop in my version of Neuland *calligraphy* through the @friendsofcalligraphy in Albany, CA, April 7-8. New-World Neuland (or Pen Manipulation Through the Back Door). (Neuland markers NOT required—we’ll be using 5mm Zig markers, in fact! 😄)

We drove to FedEx to get the package yesterday, because I couldn’t bear to risk another missed delivery today! 🖍
So far I’m favoring the ArtMarkers (brush pens) the most, but I have more wedge outliners. Ah, well. I’ll learn to love them, I suppose. 🖍
You have to let yourself suck at something for awhile in order to learn to unsuck at it! 😊
