Hey there, innovation champions!
As we wrap up another year of creating the impossible, I’ve been thinking about how the holiday season perfectly embodies the spirit of innovation.
Think about it: What’s more creative than figuring out how to fit an oversized Christmas tree through an undersized doorway? Or finding that perfect gift for the person who “doesn’t want anything”?
The holidays remind us that creativity often flourishes under constraints. And just like holiday magic, innovation thrives when we:
1. Play Hard
Remember the pure joy of shaking wrapped presents as a kid? That spirit of playful curiosity is exactly what drives breakthrough innovation. When was the last time your team approached a challenge with that kind of excitement?
2. Make Crap
Those first attempts at holiday cookies might not look Instagram-worthy, but they’re essential steps toward mastery. Innovation works the same way – we need those “crappy first drafts” to get to the good stuff.
3. Learn Fast
Every year, we get a little better at everything from gift wrapping to cooking the turkey. Why? Because we learn from our mistakes and iterate. That’s the innovation cycle in action!
So here’s my holiday challenge for you: What if you approached your next innovation challenge with the same spirit you bring to holiday problem-solving?
Maybe it’s time to:
– Get playfully curious about that stubborn problem
– Give yourself permission to make “ugly prototype” solutions
– Learn from what doesn’t work to create something better
Stay curious, stay playful, and keep creating the impossible!
Wishing you a season full of creativity and breakthrough innovations,
Melissa
