I was sharing in my group call with my Creative Sandbox Community members yesterday that my daily doodle practice is a *spiritual* practice for me. I learn so much about myself, through this seemingly simple thing, putting pen to paper for a few minutes a day, letting the pen do what it wants.
It is endlessly fascinating to me, how fascinating this process is! How surprised I am by what emerges from the tip of my pen!
The me of ten years ago would have been astonished. Heck, present-time me is astonished!
Where do these shapes and designs come from??? They bear no resemblance to *anything* I was creating–or even *wanted* to create–even a few years ago, let alone ten years ago.
Even today, if I sat down and said, “I think I’ll make a piece of art,” whatever I might imagine in my head would look NOTHING like these improvisational drawings that emerge spontaneously from my pen!
And yet I am intrigued and fascinated by these artworks! I can’t stop looking at them.
Whether other people like them or not doesn’t matter (and isn’t THAT lovely! What a blessed relief!) My inner 4-year-old is having a BLAST! Finally!
Isn’t that the ultimate goal?
I mean, sure, to please the inner 4-year-old *and* the outer critics who pay the bills and grant the prestigious awards would be the ultimate.
But for recovering perfectionists, this is a form of bliss to notice and revel in. If your inner 4-year-old is having a blast, EMBRACE IT! And do whatever you can to keep that going. ?
