From today’s Doodlecam, in which I discussed the false guilt we sometimes feel when we start expressing in a different style from the one in which we were trained, or that our audience is used to seeing from us.
Like when I, a trained calligrapher, started creating art that (gasp!) didn’t contain any calligraphy!
I felt SO GUILTY!
But that wasn’t true guilt, because who was I hurting? Nobody!
Guilt is what you feel when you’re culpable, and I was culpable for nothing but following my curiosity.
Exploring your creativity is not a reason to feel guilty. You are not responsible for doing the same thing you’ve done before, just because other people want you to keep doing it.
Your job as a creator is to FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY. Period.
If you do not do this, you will stagnate.
This is why playtime in the Creative Sandbox is ESSENTIAL!
