From today’s Doodlecam, in which I contemplated the power of words. How differently would you perceive this if I called it a “miniature black and white abstract drawing,” vs a “doodle”? The way we label things has power. The way we present ourselves, our work, has the potential to raise or lower its perceived value in the eyes of others.
Keep my work hidden in a sketchbook, or put it in elegant black frames with generous white window matts.
Perception is reality.
I started calling my drawings “doodles” to scare away my gremlins. I’ve done a pretty good job with that. Perhaps it’s time to experiment with calling them abstract drawings again.
