Open Studio! As any artist who participates in #siliconvalleyopenstudios will tell you, it is a huge amount of work to make it happen.
Setting up the space (in the middle of a kitchen renovation, no less!), making labels for all the art, hanging the show, posting signs all around the neighborhood early in the morning… As I look around my living room, I definitely have my favorite pieces.
And then there are pieces I made long ago, that are no longer representative of my style.
Or that are representative of experimental phases I was going through, and don’t feel like mature pieces.
All this is to say, several “finished” canvases are destined to be gessoed over after this open studio is done.
Which ones? I’m not telling.
But let’s just say I won’t need to purchase new canvas for awhile.
This is one way to deal with excess inventory: paint over it! ?
