Swing. #novemberdrawingchallenge day 9. Sketching a bit before bed. My #pigmamicron (05) is dying. I hate that. I try to make these suckers last as long as I can, because the darn things aren’t refillable—they just go to landfill, which I HATE! But when they start to die they don’t flow anymore. It’s so annoying. 🖍
I’m also working on appreciating my style, instead of hating on it. My default reaction to my drawings is to think, “blech… I wish I could draw like So-and-So!” (Hello, Comparison Trap!) I so admire the clean styles that other people have. But no matter what I do, that is not my strength!! It’s not how I draw!! So instead of denigrating how I DO draw, and seeing it as a flaw, a weakness, I’m working on changing the paradigm, and seeing my style as a STRENGTH.
🖍
Individual style is not actually “good” or “bad,” “better” or “worse,” it just IS what it IS. So-and-So’s style isn’t better than mine; it’s simply different. Some people will be attracted to their style, some people will be attracted to my style, some people will be attracted to both styles! 🖍
The most powerful thing any artist can do is lean into your own style. Fully embrace it and become MORE YOU. .
