Another WIP from The Creative Sandbox Way. You’ll find this doodle on the “Intermission” page (you’ll have to read the book to know what that’s all about! ?) I’m LOVING my Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils! Gradients are one of favorite things, and they’re so fun to do with Inktense.
You won’t get exactly the same effect in the book, because the paper is different — what you see here is the original artwork, executed on Bristol Smooth paper in a Strathmore Visual Journal. The book paper is, well, book paper, so it takes art media and water differently. But I’ve been playing with it, and it does work with watercolor pencils; it just gives a different effect.
And you have to be careful not to flood the water, or it will soak right through! (Cardstock or a few sheets of white paper underneath are essential, to prevent soaking through to the next page.) Ultimately, there is no wrong medium or technique; it all depends on what you are trying to achieve.
