I recorded a talk by @drsusanbernstein today. That was fun! .

This went out with today’s LinkedIn post: #weekendwisdom “We are visual creatures. Visual things stay put, whereas sounds fade.” -Steven Pinker

The drawing that accompanied today’s LinkedIn post. Making ideas (in this case, statistics!) visible.
🖍
It gives me great joy to turn statistics into art! 😅
🖍
It gives me great pleasure to figure out how to draw concepts in order to illustrate business-y things!
I get to turn what would otherwise feel pretty dry (for me) into #play! 😄

I’ve been having fun making ideas visible, creating graphic illustrations to accompany my LinkedIn posts. This one says:
Blindness to unknowns leads to overconfidence, which leads to poor decisions.
The solution: focus on unknowns!
I elaborate in the text post—the visual and the text are designed to complement each other, just like a sketchnote or graphic recording. 😊

This is the end result from my latest time lapse video (sneak peek coming soon!) 🖍
Likes: -I really like my Mac computer 😊
-You can’t tell this from this photo, but I’m proud of myself for doing this one at the wall *without* putting any sketch marks up there first, which has been my protocol up til now. I *did* do a lot of sketching at a smaller scale to work out concepts, icons, how to draw Steve Jobs and Jonas Salk, etc, but I did NOT do a scale draft before jumping in. And I am very proud of myself for making the attempt without getting stalled by perfectionism! 🖍
Why? Because when graphic recording or graphic facilitating, you don’t have TIME to get perfectionistic!! You don’t have the luxury for that!! You have to throw some marks down and MOVE ON! If I can’t do that in the privacy of my own home, how can I possibly expect to do it with an audience???
🖍
Which brings me to…
🖍
Wishes: -I wish this composition came out more balanced. The upper left corner feels like the icons are floating in space, lost, about to float away! -I wish my lettering (especially my title lettering) were more consistent. I have a tendency to drift downward, and the size of my letters also drifts! “Steve Jobs” bears little relationship to “Jonas Salk” 😂 Part of this is the challenge of writing low down on the sheet, which is uncomfortable. But it’s also my general lack of consistency… 🙄
-I wish I’d written “curiosity” larger on the door, and made the “creativity” figure a tad less hidden, as they are both hard to read.
🖍
A great jazz singer, Sheila Jordan, once told me in a workshop I took from her, “Every performance is a rehearsal for the next performance.” And so it is with graphic charts: every one is a rehearsal for the next one. 😊 If you make a note of your Likes and Wishes (thanks to @malgosiakostecka for this lovely paradigm), youcant help but improve!
