Transforming “Have To’s” Into “Want To’s”
“I’m not going to do that,” I said to myself. “I have no need. I’m creating like a fiend! Why would I bother to add one more thing to my plate?”
That was the logic inside my head before the start of the very first creative challenge inside the Creative Sandbox Community.
I’d been thinking of offering creative challenges for a long time in the Sandbox — after all, daily prompts for a limited time are a great way to rally a community to get creating and sharing together.

Each month we’ll host discussions around the topic of the month, recommend targeted resources, and provide additional content for members who wish to dive deeper. 🖍

The Half-of-March Challenge inside the #creativesandboxcommunity is helping me practice #imperfectionism, because I give myself the goal of seeing how quickly I can create to the prompt, NOT how well. 🖍
This is key! Giving myself a very small time container! @carla.la.la.olson, the challenge host, suggested 5 minutes, and reminded us to use this challenge as an opportunity to be brave and vulnerable together. EXACTLY the spirit I want to cultivate inside the Sandbox! 👍👍👍

Let’s not kid ourselves: sharing work, especially when it’s a newer skill that you don’t feel confident in, is SCARY! That is flexing some major courage muscles!

THAT is why the Creative Sandbox Community is a Lab for women’s leadership. Those courage muscles that we flex when we create and share creative work? It’s those same muscles that we use when we ask the boss for a raise.

Or take on ANY big challenge that requires you to step into a bigger space than you’re used to occupying.

Creative work is a microcosm of the rest of life. What we can accomplish in our creative lives strengthens us to accomplish amazing things in the other parts of our lives.

Some days are finished products (which I may or may not feel pleased with), and other days are drills (which I also may or may not feel pleased with). That’s the life of a student learning a new creative skill. Gremlins abound in all corners. Your job is to continually send them off to get pedicures so you can get back to work.
